NEW HILTON CARLSBAD OCEANFRONT RESORT & SPA SET TO OPEN IN JUNE 2012
Cobbling together parcels of land, forging great working relationships with a city and designing an appealing hotel was just the beginning for the new Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort and Spa, currently under construction across from Carlsbad State Beach. Developer Bill Canepa has spent a decade breathing life into the hotel project. Canepa’s passion for San Diego North County is behind one of the few new hotels being built in California. At the time of its groundbreaking in January 2011, it was the only major hotel under active development west of the Mississippi and is the only Hilton Resort currently under construction in the U.S. The new Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort and Spa is scheduled to open in June 2012.
Set across from a spectacular stretch of beach, Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort and Spa will bring a new kind of resort to the city – a resort that will make visitors and guests feel as if they have become a part of this relaxed, Southern California haven, if only for a short time – and yearn to return. The elegant, contemporary resort will offer unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean and state-of-the-art amenities including a complete spa, signature restaurant and diverse meeting and event space.
The property will feature 215 guest rooms including 8 suites, many with panoramic ocean views. Modeling the California Craftsman style, the resort architecture was inspired by the work of the famous architects Charles and Henry Greene whose interest in wood and metal work while studying architecture at MIT in the late 1800s merged with the inspiration from examples of Japanese architecture at the World’s Columbian Exhibition in 1892. The result is a stunning example of contemporary Craftsman architecture - built the way the Greene Brothers might do it today.
With a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and a short walk to gorgeous South Carlsbad State beaches, the ocean is integrated in the very identity of the resort. Sitting at the crest of a series of gently rolling berms, the resort takes full advantage of its western exposure and sweeping ocean views. Drawing inspiration from the setting, the handsome and abundant plant palette echoes the coastal landscape with large use of mounding fragrant and flowering coastal shrubs and trees. A perfect retreat for guests will be the masterfully designed 5,600 square foot Ocean Crest Spa, also inspired by the Pacific Ocean. Elements like energy, power, serenity calmness and beauty are at the core of the interior design through the generous use of teak, bronze, stone, amber and glass generating an instinctive connection at the deepest level of ones soul. The Spa will feature 7 treatment rooms, a couple’s room with tub and private outdoor relaxation area, and men’s and women’s relaxation rooms and locker rooms. A full array of massage, facials and body treatments as well as manicure and pedicures will be offered on the menu. A 1,200 square foot Fitness Center offers aerobic area, free weights and state-of-the-art cardio equipment. The central west-facing courtyard features a 4,000 sq. ft. free-from swimming pool, a children’s splash pool, an outdoor fire pit with comfortable ocean view seating.
With over 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, the hotel offers a prime location for any size business group. The 8,500 square feet of indoor event facilities include the 5,700 square foot oceanfront ballroom which divides into five, four meeting rooms and a board room.
